The Makers Series // Maker No.5 Quince Honey Farm

It's incredible to see how Quince Honey Farm has grown from a small operation with just 2 hives of bees to become one of Britain's leading honey farms. Founded by George Wallace, a fiery Scotsman who became obsessed with beekeeping after reading a book about it while serving in Palestine, the farm has been family-run since 1949. George's sons, Paddy and Jon, joined the business in the 70s, and the family worked tirelessly to expand the farm's operations. By the 80s, they had created the world's most extensive honeybee exhibition, and in the 90s, they developed a range of new products, including skin care products, honey marmalade, honey mustard, honey chutney, and furniture polishes. Today, Quince Honey Farm is still family-run, with Paddy and Jean's son Ian working to build on the family’s hard work and develop the tourist attraction, refine beekeeping techniques, and increase honey production. The farm relocated to a brand new site, which opened to the public in April 2019.
